Keiko Takeya – choreographer & performer

In 1975, Keiko Takeya was sent to the USA on a fellowship scheme by the Cultural Agency of Japan and became a member of the Martha Graham Company. In 1983 she established her own company and ten years later began a collaboration called ‘Dance Dongfeng (East Wind)’ with Asian artists. In 2003 she created three shows including ‘Without a Boat’ with Indian, Indonesian, Thai and Malaysian artists and took them on tour in Europe and Asia. The project ‘Between Tradition and Now’ toured five cities in Indonesia in May 2006. She is currently the artistic director of ‘Dance 01’ and is actively searching for possibilities of free physical expression beyond the ordinary together with educational activities based on her unique theory of ‘physical coordination’.
